lost and
stray dogs
Rescue Village DOES NOT take stray or lost dogs. These dogs
are transferred to the Geauga County Dog Warden. You can
reach the Geauga County Dog Warden at 440.286.8135.
- If you have lost a dog or found a
stray dog, FIRST contact the dog warden in your county
- If the dog warden does not have your
lost dog, please call us to file a lost dog report at 440.338.4819
ext. 10
- Call other shelters
Findtoto.com is
a nationwide alert system for lost and stolen pets. Their
system calls 500 – 5,000 your neighbors so they can
look for your missing dog, cat or any missing pet. Think
of it as the "Amber Alert" for lost or stolen
animals. If you use their service by clicking here,
GHS will receive $5 through their Shelter Referral Program.
- Check with neighbors and hang missing or found pet flyers.
- Place a classified ad in local newspapers.
- Contact local veterinarians and clinics
in the area.
- Contact the microchipping service – if
your pet is microchipped.
- Post an advertisement on pet databases
(i.e. petfinder.com) – check frequently.
- Don't give up. It sometimes take
awhile for a scared, lost pet to find their way home or
to be turned in to an animal welfare agency.
