Humane Education

Rescue Village offers educational programs to individuals as well as civic, community, professional, and school groups.

School Outreach Programs - Designed to foster those values of respect, compassion, and reverence for life that will make the world a better place for both humans and animals. These interactive lessons were developed in conjunction with the Humane Society of the United States, the American Humane Association, and the ASPCA.

Visits and Tours - Arrange an educational program and tour at Rescue Village. Visits address pet care, animal body language, bite prevention, and Rescue Village's Mission. Visits with older groups may address volunteer opportunities and career paths, spay/neuter, the link between animal abuse and domestic violence. Talks can be tailored to your interests and may be arranged for adult groups.

Service Project Ideas

  • Throw a Party: Have fun while making a difference! Host a "Baby Shower" at your house and have each guest bring a gift for a new puppy or kitten. After the party, deliver the much needed items to our shelter. WE NEED - kitten and puppy formula, kitten and puppy nursing bottles, heating pads, canned kitten and puppy food and toys.
  • Donation Drive: Organize a food drive or animal care item drive in the classroom, at church or temple or in your civic group. We'll provide you with a wish list of most needed items, you create posters, set up a donation container and location and encourage those around you to donate to Rescue Village. Once all items are collected, plan a visit to our shelter to deliver the much needed goods.
  • Cat Lovers - Get Crafty: Do you like to sew? Grab some bargain fabric and make cat toys. Use polyfil to stuff squares of cloth, add some yarn and a bell and you have yourself a cat toy! No catnip please.
  • Dog Lovers - Put the Dog to Bed: Rescue Village uses Kuranda brand dog beds. We would love to give each dog his or her own bed to sleep in at night. $50 will help buy one bed, $100 will help provide a bed for two dogs... Collect money by having a bake sale, raffle or another fun way to be used to purchase much needed beds for the dogs who live in our shelter. Beds can be purchased and shipped directly from Kuranda's web site or donations can be specified to purchase beds.
  • Change For Critters: Collect change from pennies to quarters for the animals at Rescue Village. Set up a donation canister at work or at school. School classes can challenge other classrooms to see who can collect the most money. Have fun and make a difference.
