Happy Endings!

Each year, approximately 1,700 homeless animals are united with caring people through the efforts of Geauga Humane Society. We celebrate every happy ending for the homeless animals that come to Rescue Village. These are just a few of those wonderful Happy Endings...

A Happy Ending for Kenner

chihuahua kenner with her new owner

Kenner is a female Chihuahua rescued from the St. Bernard Parish area of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit.  She was brought to Rescue Village in October along with several other evacuated or left behind animals.  One of Kenner's original rescuers, Carol, a woman from Virginia, asked to adopt the little tan dog if no owner could be located.  Unfortunately, Kenner's family was not found. After patiently waiting for 6 weeks, Carol was finally allowed to adopt Kenner in late November.  She teamed up with another Katrina animal rescuer to help transport Kenner to Arlington, Virginia. Despite not being able to reunite Kenner with her original family, Kenner now has a new happy life with Carol.

A Happy Ending for Daisy

Daisy's family was evacuated from Louisiana and relocated to Florida before Hurricane Katrina hit. Seventy-seven year old Joseph Gadel was forced to leave his home during a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans. Because there was no room in the car for the large boxer mix Daisy, she had to be left behind. Joseph Gadel and several of his children relocated to Titusville, Florida.

Daisy’s family saw her picture posted on the Animal Emergency Response Network, a web database created by www.petfinder.com for animals affected by hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, and contacted Rescue Village.  After comparing lumps and markings on the dog to ensure she was Daisy, the Geauga Humane Society with the support of a grant from the ASPCA flew her to Florida to be reunited with her excited family.

“I can’t believe she’s alive. This is the happiest day of my life” say Ann Gadel, daughter of Joseph Gadel.
