Spay/Neuter Programs

| Trap-Neuter-Release | PetFix

We know we can't begin to ensure a home for every animal unless we tackle the basic problem of overpopulation through vigorous spay/neuter programs. At Rescue Village, every animal is sterilized before it leaves the shelter.

If you are caring for a cat or dog and are in need of spaying or neutering assistance, please review the following programs:

TNR (Trap Neuter Return) Program- This program uses humane traps to capture feral (wild) cats living outside. Once trapped, the cats are brought into Rescue Village where a volunteer veterinarian sterializes them. They also receive a rabies vaccine and an FVRCP combination feline vaccine.

Once they recover from surgery, the feral cat is returned outside where it is fed, monitored and given shelter by a caregiver. Rescue Village works to ensure that all feral cats that are trapped and sterialized are only released outside if a caregiver is available. Cats that are social are kept in the shelter and placed up for adoption.

On all TNR cats, one ear is "tipped" for the purpose of identifying that they have already been sterilized and do not need to be trapped again.

TNR is a free service for those living in Geauga County but you must agree to care for the cat once it is released. Humane traps can be borrowed from Rescue Village. Call Sarah Westman at 440-338-4819 ext. 14 to complete a TNR form and to enroll into the program.

PetFix - Rescue Village is working in cooperation with PetFix, a nonprofit mobile spay/neuter clinic, that was started in 2005 to reduce overpopulation by making spay/neuter surgeries affordable and accessible to low-income populations, feral cat caregivers, shelters and rescues in numerous counties in Northeastern Ohio.

To quailify, you must show proof of government assistance or low-income. You will be asked to show a Medicaid Card or a copy of your W-2 Tax form. If you have a cat or small dog (under 30 pounds) and are in need of spay/neuter services, please call Rescue Village to obtain a registration form and be added to the list of the next Operation PetFix day. The cost of the service ranges from $25 for a male cat to $45 for a female dog under 30 pounds. At this time, the mobile clinic cannot accommodate larger dogs.

Rescue Village is committed to this spay/neuter program and hopes to offer this service to our community as frequently as possible, therefore, we maintain an ongoing list of qualified participants.
